Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu Movie Review: Simbu’s terrific acting saves GVM’s gangster origin film
Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu marked the third sightsee of alias Simbu and Gautham Vasudev Menon after a successful Vinnaithaandi Varuvaya and Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada the medium. With Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu, both of them have again proven that they can create magic every time they join.
Muthuveeran alias Muthu is a migrant worker from Tirunelveli, who goes to Mumbai to meet their needs. B.Sc graduate, Muthu is struggling in his village in a barren land. His mother took the help of his brother and sent him to Mumbai to work at the Parotta stall. Everything took a drastic U round when Muthu worked at the kiosk. They are not only migrant workers but are also forced to kill people for their gangster boss in Mumbai. One of such events pushed Muthu to take the gun in his hand. He then dived far into the underworld. In such a way that there is no way to return. How he later gradually became one of the feared gangsters in Mumbai to form a story.
The story of Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu was written by popular literary writer B Jeyamohan. When watching a movie, there is a continuous thought that is in your mind whether VTK is the film Gautham Menon or the film Jeyamohan. VTK requires a sweet time to enter the story and Gautham slowly -the land attracts our attention by establishing the Muthu world. The story peaked in the interval where Muthu replied and made everyone jump from their chairs. And Kudos to Simbu, who did it with such skills.
Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu is a story from gangster such as Nayagan Kamal Haasan, Pudhupettai Dhanush and several films with the same kind. B Jeyamohan and Gautham Menon have a solid story. With the story of gangster in essence, there are so many space for action, emotions, and betrayal. And this duo explores every aspect of the film with great players like Simbu.
While the first half of VTK set a story, the second half was disappointment. Writing, in many places, falling flat, often makes everyone fall asleep. Big disclosures occur here, but they are inorganic. Take for example, how he knows that there is black sheep on his gang. That is a stretch that can increase films to different levels. But, it appears as a fact. Likewise, the climax, which basically is leading to the sequel, feels very in a hurry.
Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu owned by Simbu along the road. The transformation and restraint scene in its appearance makes this film interesting. Siddhi Idnani made a confident debut and looked perfect for the role of a Mumbai girl. The romantic part between Simbu and Siddhi slowed its speed.
Another subplot that made Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu stand out was the one that featured Muthu and Sridharan (Neeraj Madhav). Both of them met at the Shivaji Chatrapathi train station as they landed in Mumbai. They started their careers in two different gangs. Throughout the film, Muthu and Sridharan Cross Paths, but their different decisions determine their lives. In the climax, the two meet again and this is a deep moment. It shows what he lives like his life if he runs away from Mumbai.
Haunting ar Rahman and brilliant background scores enhance the mood of Vendhu Thanindhadhu Kaadu drastically. Cinematographer Siddhartha Nuni captures the world under Mumbai in a new color.
Vendhu Thanindhadhu Kaadu can be a pudhupettai simbu, but falls as far as several miles. The second half can be more nuanced.
