Taliban assure India to act on Pakistan-based terror groups in Afghanistan: Report

The top leadership of the Taliban convinced India during the bilateral meeting in Kabul last week that it would not allow terrorism to the third country from its land and that they would act against terrorists from Pakistan-based groups based on specific intelligence, Indian media organizations reported by The Hindustan Times reported The Hindustan Times Report.

According to the report, the guest team led by JP Singh’s senior diplomat met with Taliban government officials in Kabul, including Defense Minister Mullah Yaqoob and Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani, in addition to Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi. Singh is a joint secretary of MEA for PAI (Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iran).

The meeting took place after the national security advisor Ajit Dooval asked fellow NSA from Russia, China, Iran and the Central Asian Republic to improve the ability of Afghanistan to fight terrorism and terrorists which were threats to peace and regional security during the Regional Security Summit in Dushanbe.

According to a report by Deccan Chronicle, during the conference, New Delhi was said to have told the Taliban that terror groups related to Pakistan such as Lashkar-e-Tayyaba and Jaish-e-Mohammed were not allowed to use Afghanistan land for terrorism against India. This delegation will also meet with representatives from international organizations involved in sending Indian humanitarian assistance, which so far includes 20,000 tons of metric (MT) wheat, as well as vaccines, medicines, and winter clothes. Outside Kabul, the delegation will visit “other sites where Indian programs and projects are being implemented.”

According to HT reports, Taliban officials are committed to taking action against terrorist groups based in Pakistan such as Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-toiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen. The Taliban also vowed to take action against Al Qaeda in Sub-Benua Terrorists (AQIS) if specific information was given.

In a statement on June 2, 2022, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: “A team led by the Joint Secretary (PAI), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is currently visiting Kabul to oversee the operation of sending our humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan.” During the visit, the team will meet representatives of international organizations involved in the distribution of humanitarian assistance. In addition, the team is expected to visit places where Indian programs and projects are being implemented. The Indian team will meet with senior Taliban members, and hold discussions about Indian humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan. “
