Dwayne Johnson Confirms Black Adam’s Surprise Cameo Was His Idea

Read Time:2 Minute, 45 Second

Dwayne Johnson confirms it was his idea to make the surprise Black Adam cameo happen and explains how it came about. After more than a decade of being attached as Black Adam for Warner Bros., Johnson has finally joined the DCEU, as his solo film is debuting in theaters all over the world this week. While Johnson was initially slated to appear in the Shazam! movie, the Hollywood megastar convinced the studio to let the two DC icons have their own solo films and unite for a showdown in a future story.

Black Adam explores Teth-Adam’s tragic origin story, showing how a Kahndaq slave is given godlike powers and awakes in modern times after being imprisoned for 5000 years. For years, Johnson has continued to tease and uphold his promise that Black Adam’s live-action debut will forever change the hierarchy of power in the DC Universe, including going after the Justice League. While Black Adam sets up Johnson’s character in a big way, it also cements itself into the larger DCEU, including its massive post-credits scene, which features the return of Henry Cavill’s Superman.

Even though the Black Adam post-credits scene had leaked online early, the re-emerging of Cavill’s Superman has already built up massive hype and excitement for the future of the DCEU. Following reports that he had to go over former DC Films head Walter Hamada to get Cavill’s Superman in Black Adam, Johnson opens up about the cameo in a new interview with ComicBook. Johnson confirms that he did indeed go straight to the Warner Bros. Pictures bosses in order to get the cameo idea greenlit, sharing the following:

What’s Next For Henry Cavill’s Superman In The DCEU

While Cavill’s Superman and Johnson’s Black Adam had a brief but pivotal interaction at the end of the film, the bigger question that remains is what is next for Krypton’s last son. Right before Black Adam opened in theaters, new reports emerged about what Warner Bros. Discovery are reportedly considering with the DCEU as they go forward with the franchise. One project that is in an early stage of development is Man of Steel 2, with the idea to have Cavill’s Superman back on the big screen in his own franchise. The studio is reportedly looking to tap a screenwriter. Johnson has also promised that a Black Adam vs. Superman fight is also in the cards, which is being eyed as a long-form DCEU story.

Even though Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Films are staying silent about the future of Cavill’s Superman, Black Adam clearly signaled that they are not letting go of the actor’s version of the character any time soon. In one way or another, it shouldn’t come as a shock that a showdown between Black Adam and Superman seems to be inevitable at this point. For years,

it has been unclear if Warner Bros. and Cavill were done with each other, but with the previous regime and DC Films’ Hamada out of the way, it does suggest that his Superman might be a main player again in the DCEU. As Black Adam opens worldwide, it will be interesting to see how the larger audience reacts to Cavill’s Superman returning to the DCEU and what will happen next for the character.
